How to Perform Namaz for Women: A Step-by-Step Guide

Like men, praying the namaz is an essential part of faith for Muslim females. Namaz is the second pillar of Islam and is observed five times at the time frame specified. Namaz is an easy way to connect to Allah. The essential movement of namaz is identical for men and women, but there are some postures and details that are sensitive to a woman’s privacy and modesty.

Step by step guide how to perform namaz for women

Preparation for Namaz :

Purification:

Before praying namaz, women should be in a state of purity. Depending on the situation, if the woman is experiencing menstruation or post-natal bleeding, she should perform a ghusl before namaz.

Dress Code:

Perform Wadu (Ablution):

As an act of cleansing, Wudu (ablution) is required before performing Salah (prayer), handling the Qur’an, and other Islamic acts of worship. Wudu means using clean water for bathing certain body areas. Here’s a detailed explanation of how to do Wudu:

  1. Make intention:

Silently make the intention in your heart to perform wudu.

  1. Wash Hands

Wash your hands up to the wrists three times, starting with the right hand and then the left. Ensure you wash between the fingers.

  1. Rinse the mouth ‘

Scoop water into your mouth with your right hand, then rinse well. Repeat three times.

  1. Cleanse  the nostrils 

With fresh water, inhale gently into the nostrils to clean them, then blow out to expel. Use the left hand to help if needed. Perform this three times.

  1. Wash the face 

Wash your whole face, paying attention to every corner, from chin to forehead and ear to ear. Repeat three times. Be sure to include washing over the beard or facial hair for those who have it, making sure water reaches the skin underneath.

  1. Wash the arms

Wash the right arm, including the hand, up to (and including) the elbow. Make sure to wash between the fingers and all around the arm. Repeat with the left arm. Do this three times for each arm.

  1. Wipe the head and ears.

With wet hands, gently wipe over the head, starting from the forehead to the back and then back to the front. This is done once. Using the index fingers, clean the insides of the ears and the outsides with the thumbs. This is also done once.

  1. Wash Feet

Wash the right foot up to the ankles, washing between the toes. Repeat with the left foot. Do this three times for each foot.

Find a quiet and clean place:

The place of prayer should be clean and free from distractions (Najasa).

Prayer Mat (Musallah): A prayer mat is recommended if the cleanliness of the ground is uncertain.

Privacy: Many women prefer to pray privately, particularly if it allows for more concentration and spiritual connection.

Face the Qibla:

Make sure you are facing Mecca’s Kaaba, which is the direction Muslims face (Qiblah) when they pray. You can find out this by asking about it or by utilizing compass applications made especially for Muslims or on mobile phones.

Set Your Intention (Niyyah):

Set the intent in your mind beforehand for the prayer you are going to conduct, whether it be one of the five daily prayers or another one. It is a quiet confirmation from the heart that calls for no words to be said out loud.

Following are the steps on How to Perform 2 Rakat Namaz (for Women):

 Step 1: Takber:

Raise hands in line with the shoulders, and Say  ‘Allahu Akbar’ (الله أكبَر)

2: Qiyam:

 Place hands on the chest, right hand over the left.

3: Read Sanaa

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وبِحَمْدِكَ وتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ ولا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ

Subḥānakal-lahumma wa biḥamdika wa tabārakas-muka wa taʿālā jadduka wa lā ilaha ghayruka

4: Recite Surah Al Fateha
5: Recite any other Surah
6: Bow(Ruku) 

In Ruku fingers of both hands should be together and place on the knees. The arms should be well joined to the side and the ankles of both feet should be together. Women should only bow to the extent that their hands reach the knee.

7: In Ruku recite the following Three times 

In Ruku recite the following 3 times:

Subhaana Rabbiyal ‘Azeem

Subhaana Rabbiyal ‘Azeem

8: Afterwards, stand up in Qayam position while reciting the following Tasbeeh 

Sami Allahu liman hamidah

Sami Allahu liman hamidah

9:  After Tasbee recite Tahmeed
Subhaana Rabbiyal a’ala

12: Do the Sajdah again while saying “Allahu Akbar” and in Sajdah recite “Subhaana Rabbiyal a’ala” 3 times.

13: Stand up erect while reciting “Allahu Akbar”. This position will be Qiyam (same as step #4 &5)

Repeat step 6 to step 12 in Step 20 

Say “Allahu Akbar” when you enter Jalsah following the second Sajdah. The woman should extend both of her feet to the right while sitting on her left buttock. Her fingers should be interlocked and both hands should be on her thighs.

21 After completing two cycles (Rakats) of the preceding procedures, sit for the Tashahhud and gently repeat the testimony of faith.

22: Darood On Prophet: Recite Darood-E-Ibrahim

23: Make Dua: Ask Allah for whatever you wish in your heart or with the suggested Dua:
